ASPIRIN DOUBLES LIFE EXPECTANCY IN GASTROINTESTINAL CANCER PATIENTS

@ According to a major study, aspirin is capable of doubling the life expectancy of patients suffering from cancers affecting the gastrointestinal tract.// Findings of the© study have been presented at the 2015 European Cancer Congress in Vienna.//
@ Men and women suffering from a range of cancers who used the anti inflammatory pain killer saw a **significant** survival benefit as compared to those who did not take the drug.// Researchers looked at data from approximately 14,000 patients in the Netherlands, ©nearly half of them were taking aspirin on regular basis.//
@The effect of aspirin on survival was observed after adjustment for factors like age, gender, stage of cancer, treatments, and other medical conditions, which could have an impact on influenced death rates.//
@According to trial co ordinator Dr Martine Frouws, from Leiden University in the Netherlands, **Now we would like to analyse tumour material from these patients.// ©Through studying the characteristics of tumours in patients where aspirin was beneficial, we should be able to identify patients who could profit from such treatment in the future**.//
